Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Senator Sirajul Haq has said that the audit of the democratic government is essential to save the system. He was speaking at an Iftar party hosted in his honour.

Talking to media, he said that 14 workers of the PAT were killed in Model Town about two years ago but the judiciary had failed to do justice in this case. Due to this, the masses have lost trust in the present judicial system, and are looking up to the military courts for justice.

He said that every chief justice of the country, after his retirement, had admitted the weaknesses of the judicial system in dispensing justice, adding that the present chief justice of Pakistan was strongly criticising the judiciary and the judicial system during his service. The question is would correct this faulty system, he asked.

The JI chief said that the rulers would never be ready for their accountability. He said that a poor man has to spend all his belongings and run from one place to another seeking justice but does not get it. On the other hand, the affluent are able to purchase justice through their wealth.

Sirajul Haq said that so far, the government had failed to set up the judicial commission and added that such delaying tactics and ad-hoc measures won’t save it. He said that matter was not with the government or the opposition, it was with the masses and they would not allow anyone to run away.

He said the present rulers will have to sacrifice to escape the public wrath. He said if someone believed that he would be able to save his ill gotten wealth and skin, he was mistaken. Therefore, he said, the sooner the rulers presented themselves for accountability, the better.
