The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday dismissed an application filed by Dr Asim Hussain, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former petroleum minister, for urgent hearing of a petition that seeks attestation of his power of attorney being transferred to his son.

The application seeking the hearing of petition on urgent basis was dismissed by the SHC bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah. Earlier, the petitioner submitted that he was behind bars and was unable to carry out his business affairs outside Pakistan. He intended to give an authority to his Canadian nationally holder son, Ammad Hussain, to represent him in all matters regarding his business affairs outside the country.

The former petroleum minister said that for the execution of power of attorney, he was allowed by an accountability court to approach the ministry of foreign affairs. The petitioner submitted that he had executed his power of attorney in favour of his son, but it was not attested by authorities concerned as yet. The power of attorney will not be functional until it is attested by the secretary ministry of foreign affairs. Citing the secretary ministry of foreign affairs as the respondent, Dr Asim requested the court to direct the respondent to attest power of attorney being granted to his son.
