A pre-monsoon spell of rains lashed parts of the province, including the provincial metropolis, late on Thursday night, bringing respite to people in the sizzling weather across the country.
As the downpour began, many low-lying areas in Lahore were inundated in a few minutes. Reportedly, power feeders in Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala and other districts tripped, causing power breakdowns and fluctuations. In Gujranwala alone, 150 feeders tripped, said an official in the GEPCO.
Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds provided the much-needed relief to people who were braving high temperature of 41 0C and additional humidity in the air earlier in the day.
The Met Office has predicted two good pre-monsoon rains in the country during the coming week. The department has forecast 20 per cent more rain this year compared to the previous year, according to a spokesperson for the Metrological Department.
