A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and members of the Election Commission was held on Friday at the Parliament House, for the election of its Chairman. Senator Pervaiz Rashid was elected chairman of the multi-party Committee.
The National Assembly special secretary apprised members of the committee about the procedure for election of chairman. The process commenced and Member of National Assembly Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry proposed the name of Senator Pervaiz Rashid for the chairman of the committee.
MNA Nawab Muhammad Yusuf Talpur seconded the proposed name. There was no other candidate; therefore, Senator Pervaiz Rashid was elected unopposed.
The special secretary congratulated the chairman on behalf of the speaker and deputy speaker and assured him of full support from the National Assembly Secretariat.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid then presided over the meeting. He thanked all the members for reposing their confidence in him by electing him as chairman of the committee.
The members reciprocated and assured him of their full support for effective conduct of the business of the committee.
Fatiha was also offered on the death of wife of MNA Nawab Muhammad Yusuf Talpur. The meeting was attended by Senator Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi, Senator Muhammad Daud Khan Achakzai, MNAs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid, Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari, Nawab Muhammad Yusuf Talpur, Shazia Marri, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed and other senior officials of the National Assembly Secretariat.
