Islam does not allow forced conversion of non Muslims: Zafarul Haq

Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq on Friday said that Islam does not allow forced conversion of non Muslims as it increases tension in the society.

The Senate on Friday expressed indignation over the reported forced conversion of a Kalash girl to Islam.

Speaking on a Point of Public Importance in Senate Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed said the forced conversion of the girl was lamentable. Minorities should be provided special attention and care, he added.

Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani remarked that crimes against women are increasing in the country. The Senate session was suspended for five minutes to protest the burning alive of a girl by her mother.

POINT OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE:

Meanwhile, speaking on a Point of Public Importance, Chaudhry Tanveer Ahmed said the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has not yet started the process of land acquisition for the construction of Koral Chowk flyover on the Islamabad Highway. He said the process to acquire land from civil aviation department should be started immediately to avoid delay in the project.

He claimed that the Pakistan Housing Authority has recently allotted 350 apartments to their cronies.

Sehr Kamran said the uniforms of PIA air hostesses had been changed which is against the country’s traditions.

Meanwhile the chairman fixed July 21 as the date for hearing the issue of delayed tabling of an Ordinance in the Senate. He said the attorney general of Pakistan may also come to the House to hear the arguments of amicus curiae.

Mohsin Khan Leghari said that by elections are being delayed following the retirement of four provincial members of the Election Commission of Pakistan. He criticised the government for delay in the appointment of new members.

Muhammad Attique Shaikh lamented that the cleaning of Nullah Leh of Rawalpindi had not yet started despite the fast-approaching Monsoon rains.

Senator Nauman Wazir demanded action against the contractor of the new Islamabad Airport for faulty design. The chairman referred the matter to the standing committee concerned and demanded a report in the next session of the Senate.

Meanwhile, the Senate adopted a motion authorising the House to constitute a committee of the whole House to prepare policy guidelines in light of emerging regional realities and the role of the US in the region.

The motion was moved by Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq.
