The Supreme Court has issued notice to Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah over the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) scandal.
The apex court was hearing a contempt of court case against the former chairman of the EOBI, Zafar Iqbal Gondal when Shah’s name appeared during the hearing as a beneficiary.
The notice was served to Shah who was then serving as the minister for labour and manpower. The court has ordered him to submit a detailed reply in the next hearing.
The court also issued arrest warrants for the former secretary of the ministry Arif Azeem, and ordered that his name should be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The matter related to illegal appointments scam in the EOBI during 2010 and the misuse of funds worth Rs 44 billion.
