Maat star Adnan Siddiqui is to make his Bollywood debut with Sridevi-starrer Mom, but that wasn’t the first Bollywood film offered to him.
According to an interview, the actor has turned down several offers in the past, notable of which are Rani Mukherjee’sMardaani and Mahesh Bhatt’s Jism 2.
“I got a call from Yash Raj Films (YRF) for a role in Mardaani,” Adnan told. “They wanted me to audition for a role of a villain, I found the part interesting. But then they (YRF) called up saying they have got a young villain and wanted me to play a police officer. I was not keen on playing this role.
Mahesh Bhatt had asked me to do a role in Jism 2, again that I guess was of a police officer,” he further said, adding that there were couple of other film offers but nothing that excited Siddiqui.
“I have been part of the industry for 27 years and I have proved myself. I wanted to try something different. I wanted to do something of substance in Hindi film industry and Mom was the perfect choice,” he said.
“I am waiting for Mom to release and then I will decide what next to do (in Bollywood),” the actor concluded.Mom is the story of a stepmom (Sridevi) in conflict with her 18-year old daughter (Sajal Aly). Adnan plays Sajal’s father and Sridevi’s husband in the film.
This is Adnan’s second overseas film project, after his role in Mariane Pearl’s memoir adaptation, A Mighty Heart. He also has a key role in Dr Hassan Waqas Rana’s Yalghaar.
