Investigation into the killings of policemen in Karachi has revealed that the terrorists had declared jihad against law enforcers just before the start of the Karachi operation and had decided to ramp up activities against them.

The interrogation report of two Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists available with Pakistan Today, who were later shot dead by Inspector Shafique Tanoli in an encounter, states that the terrorist outfit had trained a number of militants to kill police personnel.

Inspector Shafique Tanoli, who was killed in a suicide attack on April 24, 2014, killed two TTP terrorists Abdullah alias Mukhtar and Hamid Khan alias Pehalwan on November 24, 2013.

Both TTP terrorists were implicated in the killings of 34 policemen and four police informers in SITE area in 2013 before their arrest. They were arrested by Pakistan Rangers and later handed over to police.

Both TTP terrorist were detained in Mochko police station from where they tried to escape by breaking the windows but the police followed them and killed them in an encounter eventually.

According to the report, TTP Karachi Chief Azizullah alias Shamzai has declared the law enforcers as Kafirs (non-muslim). Shamzai believes that there is no need to go to Afghanistan for jihad, as the Taliban need to wage jihad inside Pakistan by killing those who are “involved in implementing the system of kafirs in the country”.

The TTP chief claims that by killing law enforcers, the Taliban will get Sawab (spiritual reward). He has ordered his men to kill the maximum number of police personnel.

COP KILLING IN KARACHI:

As per the statistics, 24 cops were killed in Karachi in 2010, 87 were shot dead in 2011, 143 police personnel were gunned down in 2012 while 2013 marked the deadliest year when 190 policemen and Rangers personnel were killed in the city.

Following the start of the Rangers-led targeted operation in the city, the killings of law enforcers were reduced after encounters and raids in almost all parts of the metropolis. In 2014, 143 policemen and 17 personnel of the paramilitary Rangers were killed in the city. The situation improved in 2015 and the number of law enforcers killed by terrorists reduced significantly.

BANALITY OF EVIL, THE STATEMENT OF ABDULLAH ALIAS MUKHTAR:

Abdullah alias Mukhtar was the brother-in-law of TTP Karachi Ameer Azizullah. During investigation Abdullah confessed to killing 9 policemen in SITE area. In his statement to police, he said that he received orders for killing policemen from TTP Karachi Chief Azizullah and Mufti Shakir Ahmed. He told police that they roamed in the city and opened fire on policemen in uniform.

He told police that he was associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan since 2006 and had received three-month training in Wana, Waziristan. He said that he went to the Pak-Afghan border with 12 other TTP members for 9 months and then returned to Karachi.

He said that he again went to Waziristan in 2008 and was deployed with Mullah Nazir, one of the main commanders of South Waziristan killed in a drone strike in January 2013, as a guard. He further revealed that he came back to Karachi after spending a few days in Afghanistan and was arrested by Crime Investigation Department (CID) in 2010.

“I spent three months in jail and was released on bail,” Abdullah told police, adding that he was released by the court due to lack of evidence. I went to Waziristan again and joined my brother-in-law Azizullah after coming to Karachi.

STATEMENT OF HAMID KHAN ALIAS PEHLWAN:

Hamid Khan alias Pehalwan in his statement to police said that he had wanted to go Afghanistan and participate in Jihad. He said that he went to a body building club for exercise where he managed to become friends with TTP member Ghulab Shah.

“Ghulab Shah told me that he was friends with Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan commander Nasirullah,” Hamid Khan said, adding, “I went to Afghanistan via Peshawar and after getting training for one month, I came back to Karachi where I met with Azizullah alias Shamzai.”

Both terrorists claimed that TTP Karachi Ameer Azizullah alias Shamzai told them to wage Jihad against the law enforcers ‘because they are engaged in implementing system of Kafirs’.
