The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday summoned the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board’s executive engineer south along with relevant documents on a petition seeking contempt of court’s proceedings against the KWSB managing director and others for not complying with its orders.
The SHC bench, headed by Justice Nadeem Akher, was hearing the contempt petition filed by Tanzeel-ur-Rehman, resident of Karachi’s New Karachi Sector, 2C area, who moved the court against water board for not providing water to the area despite the court’s directives.
During Wednesday’s hearing, the court directed the executive engineer to appear before it along with relevant documents and inform it what measures had been taken regarding this issue.
The SHC bench also issued notice to KWSB MD and other alleged contemnors directing them to file their respective comments in the next hearing.
Earlier, the petitioner had submitted that the SHC had directed the KWSB to complete work and provide water to the area’s residents but its directives had not been complied with as yet. The residents were compelled to purchase water from tankers to fulfill their daily requirements.
The petitioner added that this act of the KWSB fell within the ambit of court’s contempt; therefore, contempt proceedings should be initiated against the MD and other officials.
