Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed a petition challenging the appointment of retired bureaucrat Kamran Lashari as director general of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA).
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard the petition filed by Zubair Khan Niazi, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that this appointment was illegal, as under the Supreme Court’s directions, no retired officer could be reappointed. He also submitted that the apex court had ordered action against Lashari over charges related to corruption in the Capital Development Authority, which he headed previously. He said no action was taken against him and after the retirement, Lashari was appointed WCLA DG. He requested the court to declare the appointment as unlawful.
However, Assistant Advocate General Anwarul Hussain opposed the request and submitted that the WCLA was an independent institution and legally, there was no bar over appointment of a retired bureaucrat as its DG.
He further submitted that the inquiry committee declared Lashari as innocent in CDA corruption case.
The court after hearing detailed arguments of parties dismissed the petition.
