Kashmir issue to be resolved in accordance with aspirations of Kashmiris: Rashid

Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that the Kashmir issue would be resolved in accordance with United Nations resolutions and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.

He said this in a meeting with a delegation of Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders who called on him here Tuesday.

The minister said that resolution of Kashmir dispute was imperative for durable peace and stability in the region.

Rashid said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has highlighted the Kashmir dispute at all international forums, including United Nations General Assembly, and reminded the international community of its responsibilities in fulfilling the promise made with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“PM Nawaz Sharif with his sagacity and statesmanship would mitigate the sufferings of the Kashmiri people as they have rendered unmatched sacrifices for their just cause of freedom from Indian occupation,” the minister added.

The minister also reiterated the continued support of the government and the people of Pakistan for the Kashmiris in their struggle for right of self determination.

The delegation praised the Prime Minister for reviving the Kashmir issue which they said had become dormant under the regime of Pervez Musharraf.

They also prayed for the health and speedy recovery of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The delegation was headed by Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Front Zafar Akbar Bhat.
