CM reviews arrangements for possible floods

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review arrangements and preparations for monsoon and possible floods.

The chief minister said that departments and institutions will have to play an active role in this regard and they should finalise protective arrangements for monsoon season and possible flood. He directed the authorities to complete the process of de-silting of drains and sewer lines in advance.

The chief minister also said that third party audit should be conducted of de-silting work of drains and sewer lines.

He said that departments and institutions concerned will have to perform their responsibilities efficiently and give results. He said that third party audit of equipment and machinery of WASA should be arranged and a report should be submitted. He directed secretary housing to personally visit the site and review the situation.

Shehbaz Sharif directed that separate arrangements should be made for drainage of rainwater from the route of Orange Line Metro Train, adding that in view of monsoon season and threat of flood, the machinery and equipment should be in working order. The chief minister directed the secretary local government to pay visits to districts for personally checking protective arrangements and preparations.

He said that the health department should have necessary medicines and items to meet any untoward situation. He said that vaccine for treatment of snakebite should be made available in abundance in districts. Secretaries of departments concerned gave a briefing to the meeting. Provincial Ministers, Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Yawar Zaman, Bilal Yasin, Muhammad Shafique, Tanvir Aslam Malik, Kh. Ahmed Hasaan, Ch. Shehbaz Ahmed MPA, chief secretary and secretaries of concerned departments attended the meeting, while Advisor on Health Kh. Salman Rafique participated through video link.
