As many as two newly-elected members of the provincial assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) took oath in Sindh Assembly on Tuesday.
Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani administered the oath to Mehfooz Yar Khan and Syed Muhammad Qamar Abbas Rizvi who were elected through by-elections held in PS 106 and PS 117, respectively, in Urdu. After taking the oath of MPA office, Rizvi shook hands with the Speaker and raised slogans in favour of his party.
The PS 106, said to be MQM leader’s home constituency, fell vacant as their member Iftikhar Alam joined Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) in March this year. Similarly, the PS 117 fell vacant as Dr Sagheer Ahmed separated his ways with the MQM after 28-year and joined the newly-formed PSP.
Speaking on the occasion, Mehfooz and Abbasi said they were thankful to the people of constituency for electing them and their party leadership for selecting them to serve the people. The newly-elected members were congratulated by the lawmakers of their own party – Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim Leauge (Functional) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
