Pervaiz Rashid offers to replace members of govt committee, too late

PPP says it may take part in street protests

The joint opposition has called its meeting today (Tuesday) to take a final decision on whether to boycott or continue participating in the Parliamentary Committee’s discussions.

A parliamentary committee was tasked to formulate the Terms of References (TORs) for the proposed judicial commission to probe the Panama Leaks. Opposition feels that the government is not serious about chalking out TORs that may also be acceptable to the opposition.

According to details, representatives of parties in the joint opposition will be attending the meeting which will be at 2:00 pm at the chamber of the opposition leader at the Parliament House.

PERVAIZ RASHID OFFERS TO REPLACE MEMBERS OF GOVT COMMITTEE, TOO LATE:

The government on Monday approached the opposition over the issue of the TORs.

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid held a meeting with Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah to discuss the TORs.

Pervaiz Rasheed asked the opposition leader for names that could be placed in the Parliamentary Committee.

Speaking to media persons, Khursheed Shah said that the government should accept the opposition’s TORs without changing a word.

He added that the Pakistan People’s Party wanted to refrain from street politics. “But if the government does not change its stance we will have to rethink our decision,” he said.

He said that the prime minister in his speech to the nation had presented himself for accountability. “But now the government is buying time by declaring every sort of criticism as a conspiracy hatched against it.”

Deadlock persisted between the government and opposition over TORs during a meeting held on Friday.

Another meeting of the committee is scheduled for today.
