The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan summoned Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan Syed Abrar Hussain Shah and lodged protest over a clash between the Afghan and Pakistani forces in Torkham.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Administrative Affairs Dr Nasir Ahmad Andisha claimed that an agreement was reached for the establishment of installations in Torkham as part of the negotiations between the two nations in accordance with the international norms. He alleged that Pakistan continued with the installation work contrary to the agreement and the Pakistani forces opened fire on the Afghan border guards, Afghan press reported.
Afghan security forces had fired gunshots targeting Pakistani security personnel at a gateway 37 meters inside the Pakistani territory at Torkham.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released an image showing that the under construction gate at Torkham border is 37 meters inside Pakistan.
“This gate is considered essential to check and verify documentation of all border crossers. It will check movement of terrorists, the ISPR said, and added, “Afghan forces resorted to unprovoked firing in Pakistan territory at the Torkham border.”
