Interior Ministry warns of terrorist attacks

The Interior Ministry has warned of the possible suicide attack in residential complexes during Ramazan.

In a letter written to Presidency, Prime Minister Secretariat, heads of intelligence agencies and all the provinces, the interior ministry said suicide attack can occur at any place during the month of Ramazan.

The letter states that there is intelligence that suggests Lashkar e Jhangvi (LeJ) terrorists based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are plotting terrorist attacks at residential complexes at an unidentified location.

Reconnaissance of the target has been carried out and the terrorists along with ammunition have already reached close to the target area, it read.

Earlier, On the report of law enforcement agencies, Interior Ministry has informed all the provinces, particularly KP, about threats from terrorists targeting key security installations, main bus terminals and shopping centres. The ministry further issued directives to provincial authorities to beef up security measures in their respective provinces.

Well-placed sources said that banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has threatened to target key security installations, busy bus terminals and shopping centres in Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad and other major cities. The interior ministry has informed the KP government about these threats directing them to tighten security.

According to reports, terrorists have planned to target important security installations in Peshawar and other major cities. The terrorists are all set to hit their targets.

Sources said ten terrorists have been trained and sent to conduct terror attacks in Peshawar and other major cities. Security agencies have stepped up security in bus terminals, shopping centres and recreational points in Islamabad, Peshawar, Lahore and other major cities of KP.

Reports said that threats have been received of terrorists targeting a leading private bus service in the country. Therefore, the security agencies have issued directives to this bus company to beef up security at its bus terminals. Furthermore, the company is told to conduct a search of the luggage of the commuters and start monitoring cafes, tuck shops and hotels located in their bus stops. Security agencies have provided their assistance as well. The commuters have also been warned against the terror attacks asking them to remain highly vigilant and cautious.

Sources said that stringent security arrangements have been put in place in Friday prayer congregations, Taraveeh prayers and shopping centres during the holy month of Ramzan in the wake of the terror threats.

The intelligence agencies have started conducting operations to arrest the terrorists and arrangements are also being made to curb the terrorist activities during Ramzan and particularly during the Eid holidays.
