President Mamnoon Hussain has directed the Federal Ombudsman for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace to equip women with advanced technology, give them protection and increase their confidence in the workplace.

He said this while talking to Justice (R) Yasmin Abbasey who called on him here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, according to a press release issued the other day.

The president said that effective participation by women in the workforce was necessary to ensure national development but to achieve this objective they must be provided with confidence and security for which Federal Ombudsman for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace plays a vital role.

He further advised them to redress the grievances of working women and effectively use advanced technology so that women do not have to travel far distances for the provision of justice.

  1. Previously he had pursueded to provide protection to 'witnesses' and now to working women. Being from Karachi, he had seen what happenes to 'witnesses' and how they are deprived, harrassed or even killed by – specially an ethnic party of Karachi. When Tahir Plaza, a building adjacent to City Court Karachi was locked from outside and set on fire by MQM, Police had registered 86 eye witnesses. They were harrassed so much that only two reached the courts and they also denied having seen anything before the Magistrate. Harrassment of working women is Universal though, in Pakistan the situation is nothing better than Nigeria.
