Opposition terms Sindh budget anti-people

The opposition in Sindh Assembly Saturday rejected the provincial budget for the fiscal 2016-17 terming it ‘anti-people’.

Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presented the budget in the assembly.

Talking to the media outside the Assembly Hall, Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hassan described the provincial budget as ‘jugglery of words’ as well as ‘anti-people’.

He also alleged that corruption in the province was at its peak. He said no new mega projects had been announced in the budget for Karachi and Hyderabad while the schemes mentioned were not sufficient. “We also reject the new taxes that have been imposed in this budget,” Khawaja Izharul Hassan added.

He said the provincial government claimed that agriculture had been accorded priority in the budget but the prices of vegetables as well as those of eatables were increased by 30 per cent.

The opposition leader said the budget was presented during the holy month of Ramzan while no `Ramzan Package’ was included in it. He alleged that there were concessions in the budget for what he termed commission mafia. Khawaja Izharul Hassan maintained that there were also no mega projects for Thar and rural Sindh.
