Residents of Bhittai Town and Marvi Town on Saturday blocked Hyderabad Bypass causing hundreds of vehicles to wait in queues during a protest against long power outages.
The protesters stopped vehicles heading towards southern districts and pelted them with stones. They said that the government had claimed to not carry out unannounced load shedding during Ramzan but they are made to bear 20-hour long outages. Police reached the protesting site and tried to negotiate with the enraged people but failed.
The residents said that few days ago Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) officials took the area’s transformer for repairing. They further urged the local administration to resolve the matter as early as possible.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had directed authorities concerned ahead of Ramzan to relieve the people of long power cuts during the holy month.
