Azhar Mehmood to be the new bowling coach

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has ignored the request of new coach and suggested the name of the all-rounder Azhar Mahmood for bowling coach-cum-mediator in place of Mushtaq Ahmed.

Arthur had asked the PCB to appoint Mushtaq on the said post to mediate between PCB, national team and coach.

According to local media report, “Arthur is comfortable with Mushtaq and wants him to join the team as assistant coach, but the board feels that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) would be neglected if he comes back to the national team,” a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official told to local media.

Therefore, the PCB suggested the name of Azhar with a plea that he was aware of the modern game and was most suitable for the post.

Mushtaq had failed alongside former head coach Waqar Younis in turning around the fortunes of Pakistan team in ODI and T20I formats.

Though Arthur did not raise any objection over Azhar, the PCB has yet not contacted him.

They further said the names of Aaqib Javed and Mohammad Akram were not discussed.

South African Mickey Arthur was appointed as head coach of the national team on May 6, replacing Waqar Younis who resigned after a disastrous World Twenty20 in April. Mickey also coached ‘Karachi Kings’ franchise in the inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

However, Pakistan will play four tests, five one-dayers and a Twenty20 International in England between July 14 and September 7.
