Shireen Mazari submits motion in NA demanding apology from Asif

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Shireen Mazari submitted a privilege motion to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, demanding an apology from PML-N lawmaker Khawaja Asif for using ‘unparliamentarily’ language against her in the National Assembly.

“I wish to submit a privilege motion pertaining to the breach of my privilege as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) when Khwaja Asif used unparliamentary and personalised abuse of my person in the course of his speech during the budget session on June 8, 2016,” Mazari stated in the letter.

She further stated, “His (Asif’s) personalised attack on my person was unacceptable and his refusal to apologise further showed his deliberate intent to abuse women parliamentarian by attacking her person.”

“I request action be taken against this personal abuse and name-calling by Khwaja Asif. Simply expunging the record is not enough and an apology on the floor of the House is essential,” Mazari added.

Earlier on Thursday, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif sent an apology letter to Ayaz Sadiq over his derogatory remarks against Mazari.

The PML-N minister earned opposition lawmakers’ ire for referring to Shireen Mazari as a “tractor trolley” and calling her voice ‘masculine’ after she interrupted his briefing on the load shedding situation.

Asif’s apology was read out by Ayaz Sadiq in the National Assembly.

Women MNAs staged walkout from the National Assembly in protest against Asif’s remarks while Mazari insisted that he should personally apologise to her on the floor of the House.
