A plea against the demand of arbitrary Hajj charges by private tour operators was filed in the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday.

The Law Ministry has been made party in the plea, filed by a civilian Afzal Khan.

The petitioner took the stance that he had submitted Hajj application through the government, but his and his wife’s Hajj requests were rejected.

It has also been said in the plea that the government has left the people at the mercy of the tour operators after allotting them with 50 per cent quota.

The petitioner has blamed the private tour operators for charging Rs 4,50,000 for the Hajj package which is twice the amount of government Hajj scheme.

The plea suggested that private tour operators are earning a profit by playing with the feelings of the people.

The petitioner demanded the court that private tour operators be barred from charging more than the government expense which is Rs 2,70,000 and shouldn’t be allotted quota in the future.
