Human Rights Provincial Minister Khalil Tahir Sindhu has said that honour killing is the worst example of brutality and bestiality, our society doesn’t allow anyone to undertake such a brutal act. The murder of a daughter by her own mother is a desecration of the sacred bond of motherhood, he added.

Khalil Tahir Sindhu expressed these views while meeting with a delegation from the Human Rights Organisation, here today. He highly condemned the immolation of an 18-year-old girl, Zeenat, by her mother and brothers in the name of honour killing in Lahore. He said that our society does not allow anyone to take law into their own hands; such incidents spread a negative image of Pakistan in the international community.

The female members of the delegation also condemned the incident. They demand exemplary punishment for all culprits involved in such heinous crimes. They said that it is very unfortunate that the circle of the honour killing has rapidly spread to the major cities from tribal and remote areas. It is a need of the hour to further strengthen the legislation and awareness among society regarding honour killings.

Talking to the delegation, Sindhu said: “The CM has sought a report within 48 hours from the CCPO Lahore and he ordered to form a three-member investigation team. The Lahore police have arrested all the suspects in this case.” He added that all the evidence will be examined through forensic lab test and strict action will be taken against all persons involved.

He said that Punjab government has taken various initiatives to protect women’s rights and as a result honour killings have decreased compared to the past. Civil society and women’s rights organisations should play an active role in spreading awareness in this regard, he concluded.
