A local court granted five days physical remand of Zeenat’s mother and brother-in-law.

Earlier, 16-year-old Zeenat was set ablaze by her mother in Factory Area on Wednesday for marrying a man of her choice, 20-year-old motorcycle mechanic Hasan Khan little over a week ago.

Police copped the woman after she came bawling out of her house, shouting that she just had killed her daughter for ‘dignity of the family’.

Three friends of slain Zeenat’s brother, Anees who is on the run ever since the attack are also in police’s custody. The case that was lodged in the issue named Zeenat’s mother, Parveen, her brother and her brother-in-law, Zafar as culprits.

The court today has sent both, Zafar and Parveen on five-day physical remand while ordered to ramp up the hunt for fugitive Anees.

On the other hand, charred remains of Zeenat were buried in a local graveyard by her husband who has vowed to do whatever it takes to bring the culprits to justice.

According to Hasan Khan, Parveen is covering up for her brother and son who helped her kill his new bride. There have been four honour killing cases in last two months in different parts of the country.

A law was amended in 2005 in connection with honour killings that prevented men from escaping sentence after killing their women relatives by declaring themselves as ‘heirs’ to the victims.

However, experts still believe that there is a loophole in the matter that is needed to be taken care of.

Senator and women’s rights activist, Sherry Rehman addressed the issue and criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who had claimed in February to bring legal reform to curb the violence against women.
