Three special economic zones in Sindh without power, gas

Sindh Board of Investment Chairperson Naheed Memon has demanded to provide electricity and gas besides other facilities to already approved three special economic zones situated at Khairpur, Bin Qasim and Konrangi and to also establish new special economic zones. This she demanded in a meeting of special economic zones approval committee held in Islamabad on Thursday.

She said that having approved special economic zones in Khairpur, Bin Qasim and Korangi Industrial Park in 2014, they must get legally all facilities but so far the federal government could not provide them to these zones.

She added that 350 MM cubic feet gas was produced daily in Khairpur but per day required 3.5 MM cubic feet gas was not being provided to Khairpur special economic zone. Due to this situation, the investors were facing difficulties, he added. The issue of land, electricity and non-availability of other facilities are being faced by Korangi and Bin Qasim special economic zones, she further said.

Naheed Memon said before giving approval for new special economic zones in other provinces, the already existing three special economic zones in Sindh needed all the required facilities. It is pertinent to add that meeting of special economic zones approval committee was held in Islamabad under the Board of Investment, Pakistan. In this meeting, head of board of investments of all provinces and federal and other representative of concerned departments were also presented.
