Ali Raza Abidi slams ‘demonisation campaign’ against MQM

MQM leader Ali Raza Abidi said Wednesday it had become quite clear after watching live transmission of private TV channels on Tuesday night that the Rangers did indeed lay siege to Farooq Sattar’s house.

“You could hear knocking on the door; many media outlets were covering it.”

Talking to Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami on his programme DNA on Channel 24 Abidi said:

“As stakeholders in Karachi we asked for an operation to be carried out in the mega city because terrorism had escalated to high levels. MQM Chief Altaf Hussain specifically asked the army to carry out the operation in order to safeguard the city from the menace of terrorism and unruly activities. However, after cleaning up Lyari from different banned organisations, the focus of that operation started turning towards the MQM,” he said.

“At least 4,500 of our workers have been arrested from their homes in front of their families. Almost 90 to 95 per cent of these were released after a 90-day remand. There were others who were arrested and sent to jail after filing a case against them,” Abidi said.

Answering a question, he said: “The policy of demoralising and demonising the MQM has continued steadily. We were labelled agents of RAW, the controversy about ‘Jinnahpur’ and the operation that followed resulted in the martyrdom of a lot of our workers. However, despite all that we have repeatedly claimed that we are a patriotic party and we are not involved in any anti-state activity.”

Talking about MQM Haqeeqi, he said that they are a party devoid of conscience. They were a part of the MQM for more than 20 years and were involved in all the party’s activities.

“After the split they can’t just dust themselves off and go their own way. They need to be put on trial too,” he added.

  1. The not so important leaders of this party holding hostage to this city for three decades, are just trying to distract facts. Dr Sattar has a reputation to provide shelter to hardned MQM criminals and Target killers. Also he allows his official vehicle to carry these target killers. This has not happened first time. The man nabbed by Rangers from his house has killed more than 140 people to please his Masters.
