Woman, newborn die due to negligence of doctors

A pregnant woman died while giving birth to her first-born and the child did not survive either.

Sunbal, a resident of Mughalpura area of Lahore, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. However, according to the deceased’s family, the hospital staff did not attend Sunbal with the urgency that was required.

“Some of the nurses were busy texting. Others were chatting. Nobody seemed serious,” Ali Raza, Sunbal’s husband, told the media.

According to a family member named Parveen, the husband was asked by the doctors whether he wants them to save Sunbal or her child. He asked them to save Sunbal. However, they came out and told that the woman did not survive, and later informed that her son had also died.

Family members of the victim staged a protest demonstration against the doctors and chanted slogans against the hospital administration for alleged negligence. The hospital administration says it will investigate the incident and take action against those found responsible.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered the provincial health minister to look into the matter and submit an enquiry report at the earliest.
