Naval chief says will ensure Gwadar Port security

 

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah visited Pakistan Navy War College on Monday and addressed the participants of the 45th PN Staff Course.

In his address, he discussed the prevailing geo-strategic environment and enhanced responsibilities of Pakistan Navy in the wake of upcoming Gwadar port and China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. He said that the global environment continues to be in a state of transition and multiple power centres are emerging.

He said: “Our national prosperity and security is intrinsically linked to the development of maritime sector and a strong navy is the insurance for the security of Pakistan”. He said that Pakistan Navy is fully prepared to ensure security of the Gwadar Port and its adjoining water and capacity building, where required, is rapidly taking place with the assistance of the government.

The admiral highlighted that the time had come where we as a nation, are overcoming the sea blindness and there was a growing understanding of the maritime potential of Pakistan.

He alluded that Pakistan Navy, without getting into arms race, was fully capable and determined to overcome the challenges and praised the government’s efforts in the development of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar Port which will exponentially increase the maritime activities in our waters.

While referring to the internal security situation, he said, “The internal security threat we face is substantial and afflicts every segment of the society. Pakistan Navy is fully aware of the challenge and accords highest priority to deal with it”.

The admiral congratulated the course participants for successfully completing the course and wished them well for future assignments.
