Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has exhorted the nation to stand united and wage a jihad against corruption and corrupt elite.
“If we let this opportunity pass by, then the next generation will never spare us,” Haq said while talking to this correspondent.
The JI chief said “the country has plunged into turmoil as successive governments failed to change the system of corruption and the corrupt elite keeps holding the nation, politics and democracy hostage”.
Deploring that no real accountability system existed in the country, Haq said that unless this evil of corruption was crushed, the destiny of the nation and the country could never be changed.
“The role and performance of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is not satisfactory. We have so many reservations about this institute and its functioning,” he added.
Haq further said the NAB had been making underhand deals and releasing plunderers who looted billions of rupees after getting a few millions from them.
He said that corruption was the real root cause of all evils in the country. “Due to this curse our people are faced with poverty, a lack of basic health facilities, educational facilities and unemployment. Our country’s foreign debts have swelled unexpectedly,” he added.
The JI chief said that “our rulers have deposited $375 billion in their foreign bank accounts”. “Over Rs 15 billion corruption has been taking place in our country daily,” he added, citing the NAB director.
