As many as 110 gastroenteritis cases were reported at Larkana Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Accident and Emergency Center during the last four days.

The rising number of gastro cases show the effect of current heatwave coupled with prolonged electricity load shedding being carried out in the entire district above the announced schedule in open violation of the government policy.

A total of 40 cases were reported on June 2, 20 cases on June 3, 35 on June 4 and 15 on June 5. As many as 3,251 general patients suffering from various diseases came to casualty during these four days out of which 689 came on June 5, 819 on June 4, 879 on June 3 and 864 on June 2. Ten patients died during these four days.

It was learnt that the CMCH 40-bed casualty mostly remains overcrowded due to the multitude of ailing people who arrive here even from distant areas such as Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Ghotki, Shikarpur and other districts.

The shortage of proper casualty medical officers has added to the misery of the patients which can be overcome by filling the vacant posts.
