First FATA jeep rally held in Khyber Agency

The political administration of Khyber Agency organised the first-ever Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) jeep rally and jeep race in Khyber Agency on Sunday.

The rally, named as ‘First Political Agent Khyber Jeep Rally’, was part of the peace campaign ‘Rangoona Pa Khyber K’ launched by the political agent of Khyber last month. Sixty-five riders of different national and regional jeep clubs, including riders from the Pakistan Army and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), also participated in the rally.

Political Agent of Khyber Agency Captain (r) Khalid Mehmood, Frontier Crops (FC) Deputy Inspector General Brigadier Qaisar and Landikotal Assistant Political Agent Rahimullah Mehsud and Member National Assembly (MNA) Shahjee Gul Afridi flagged off the rally at Torkham border at 10:00am and reached Bab-e-Khyber around 11:30am.

Hundreds of people and border officials of both Pakistan and Afghanistan witnessed the opening ceremony of the jeep rally.

Torkham border and Jamrud bazaars were closed during the jeep rally while personnel of Khasadars, Levies and FC were deployed at various places on the road to provide security to the participants of the rally.

The jeep rally was welcomed at various places in Khyber Agency while school children showered rose petals on them and chanted slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ and ‘Pakistan Army Zindabad’.

Later, 45 kilometres Shahkas-Bara race competition got underway between the jeeps owners.

Political Tehsildar Mulagori Shakeel Bakri consumed 22 minutes and received second prize while Shahjee clinched third position.

KP Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan was the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony held at Shah Kas in Jamrud.

Around ten artists and television presenters, including Syed Rehman Sheeno and Bakhtray Khattak, sung songs during the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary Khan said that organising such a healthy event was aimed to portray soft image of FATA to the world. He said gone are the days when people were being threatened conducting events like sports and cultural gathering.

Khan said he was happy and proud to be among the tribal people who offered a warm welcome to the jeep rally participants. He appreciated the political agent of Khyber and Pakistan army for arranging a historical event in Khyber Agency.

Political Agent of Khyer Agency Khalid Mehmood thanked Pakistan Army for providing foolproof security during the rally.

‘Rangoona Pa Khyber K’ campaign was launched in Khyber Agency after peace was restored in the area to restart sports and cultural activities in the tribal areas.
