The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has taken notice of ‘indecent scenes’ of a drama aired by a private TV channel, an official statement said on Saturday.
According to PEMRA, the questionable scenes were shown in a drama titled Ye hayn Muhabatein on Urdu1 TV channel on June 1, after which the regulatory body received several complaints by concerned viewers.
The TV channel has been given a show-cause notice for airing the scenes in which a couple was shown ‘doing indecent activities’.
“The TV channel had been warned earlier as well when it showed questionable scenes on April 17, 2016. The channel was asked not to air dramas that would go against the rules set by PEMRA,” the statement read.
PEMRA says if the channel failed to provide an answer till June 18, the body will take the further steps on its own.
Earlier on May 13, PEMRA had served a show-cause notice to HUM TV seeking an explanation for the portrayal of ‘unethical’ scenes in Udaari.
The notice sent to the makers of the hit TV serial — which received appreciation for highlighting the issue of child abuse — stated that the episode aired on May 8 showed an uncle (played by Ahsan Khan) forcibly luring his niece into illicit activities.
