The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Sunday staged a protest outside Chief Minister House against water crisis in Karachi.

The MQM leaders said the world was making development and Karachi was deprived of basic necessity of life. They vowed to get water for Sindh as well as Karachi.

Nominated mayor for Karachi Waseem Akhter said they were not being given powers and the Karachiites were also kept deprived of basic need of water.

The CM House spokesman had announced that no party would be allowed to rally in red zone because of imposition of Section 144. However, police personnel did not stop the protesters from marching towards the CM House due to their large number. However, they warned the MQM leadership that whoever would cross the limit would be arrested.

The road leading to the CM House was sealed by placing containers, but the protesters climbed the container and staged a protest in front of the CM House. Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said that the MQM had made a mistake by besieging the CM House.

He said the water project of K-4 was being built to solve water shortage problem. The Sindh government had allocated Rs 6 billion for the project, he added. “I feel sorry over MQM’s behaviour. Doing politics over water issue is not justified. The MQM is setting wrong tradition. How would you feel if we besiege MQM mayor’s office?” he asked.
