Budget 2016-17: 10 pc increase in salary, pension of federal govt employees

Federal Finance Minister and Senator Ishaq Dar, while presenting the federal budget for 2016-17, announced 10 per cent increase in the salaries of federal government employees and pensioners.

He said that 10pc ad-hoc relief allowance on running basic pay will be allowed to all the federal government employees with effect from July 1.

He said ad-hoc increase of 2013-14 will be merged in the pay scales.

Similarly, he announced 10pc increase in net pension to all pensioners of federal government with effect from July 1. A 25pc raise in net pension to all pensioners of federal government above the age of 85 years will also be in effect from July 1.

The finance minister also increased the minimum salary from Rs 13,000 to Rs 14,000 per month.

The minister also announced to increase withholding tax on the print and electronic media from 1pc to 1.5pc.

He, however, announced that exemption of custom duty and sales tax on the import of the news print would continue.
