Ufone, one of Pakistan’s telecom service providers, on Thursday came under fire for liking an anti-government post on Twitter.
Ufone’s official Twitter handle liked a tweet, which said ‘Go Nawaz Go’ along with the picture of a goat.
Ufone later offered apology for the inappropriate action, and announced to investigate the matter and take action against those involved.
“We regret & apologise for the inappropriate tweets today. We are investigating the issue & action will be taken against those involved,” the company tweeted.
While some media users took the incident in a lighter manner, others thought it was totally inappropriate on behalf of the telecom operator to endorse such a politically inclined post and soon ‘#BoycottUfone’ started trending on twitter.
Some were really offended and even broke their Ufone SIMs. Others called it a ‘PR nightmare’ for the organisation.
No such “people’s ire”. In fact people endorsed it.
