No link between Panama Papers issue, PM’s illness: Maryam

Maryam Nawaz said there was no link between the Panama Papers issue and the illness of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“One who is clean, does not need to take any stress…, Panama Leaks issue is a conspiracy and some people are trying to exaggerate it,” she said while talking to a private television channel.

Maryam Nawaz said despite the fact that the prime minister’s name was not mentioned in the Panama Papers, the reaction of some people on this issue was beyond comprehension.

She said Sharif family has already presented themselves before the country’s highest judicial forum – Supreme Court- for accountability.

Maryam Nawaz reiterated that she had no property abroad and was just a trustee of her brothers’ property and was not getting any benefit out of that.

She added, PM Nawaz had full faith in his party and cabinet members and there was no constitutional bar on him to give charge to anyone before leaving for treatment abroad.

Maryam Nawaz said, hours before going to the hospital for cardiac surgery, the prime minister chaired the NEC and Cabinet meetings through a video link.

She said Nawaz Sharif was an elected prime minister and the people had given him a five-year mandate.

To a question, Maryam Nawaz said despite being entitled for medical treatment on state expenses, the expenditures of PM’s cardiac surgery were paid by Sharif family.

Maryam said the PM had the mandate till 2018 and hoped he will be the prime minister even beyond 2018.

She said the PML-N political opponents were afraid of the government’s development agenda and mega projects.
