State Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Thursday told the Senate that the Islamabad Zoo was not being privatised.

He further told the Senate that help of a private partner was being sought to give a face-lift to the zoo.

Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani asked the minister to issue an order to unchain the only elephant in the zoo. “Injustice is being meted out to the elephant and the issue is being highlighted by media at the international level,” he said.

Fazal said that the elephant has been freed from fetters and a shed and a fan have been added to protect the elephant from scorching weather.
