Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) leader Dr Farooq Sattar on Wednesday unveiled his party’s shadow budget, calling for reforms in taxation system.

The shadow budget was presented in Karachi for the first time after four years. The last three budgets were unveiled in the federal capital.

“Priority must be given to local governments in the federal budget,” he stressed, saying that the state would be stronger when people would be empowered. He said that women and minorities should also be empowered economically through the federal budget. Dr Sattar was of the view that energy crisis was much more important than Metro or Orange Line Train project. The multi-billion rupee project is under construction in Lahore. He lamented that even Vietnam had more growth rate than Pakistan. To a question, he said that the MQM was the only party which raised the issues of middle class. “The Dec 16 carnage took place due to ignoring the middle class in the country,” he said.
