The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law and Member National Assembly Captain (r) Mohammad Safdar to file a reply by June 15, in a case pertaining to his wife’s assets.

Safdar was summoned by the ECP today at its headquarters in Islamabad to respond to a petition regarding his assets.

The petition was filed last week with the ECP by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Nawabzada Salahuddin Saeed who stated that Safdar had not mentioned in his nomination papers the ownership of foreign properties of his spouse, Maryam Safdar, as revealed by the Panama papers.

The petitioner had appealed ECP to unseat Safdar and launch criminal proceedings against him for ‘lying’ and ‘concealing’ his assets.

The ECP formally heard the plea and issued orders to Safdar to file his response.
