The Counter-Terrorism Department killed six terrorists in an operation while two managed to escape, reported Wednesday.
All the killed extremists were members of al Qaeda. Different teams of the anti-terror force are hunting for the escapees.
Four of the total eight terrorists were reportedly foreigners. Two rifles, two hand grenades, Mauser and a pistol were recovered from the bodies.
Bodies were shifted to Layyah’s District Hospital for autopsies.
In a separate event, Counter-Terrorism Department, acting on a tip-off, carried out an operation near Mini Stadium at the Sheikhupura Road in Gujranwala and apprehended a commander of Islamic State (IS) named Faisal Babar.
Bombs made out of pressure cookers, timers, ball bearings and detonators were seized from his possession. The arrested terrorist had planned to carry out attacks on security forces’ installations in Gujranwala, according to reports.
Babar was shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
