A four-member inquiry committee has finalised a report Tuesday (today), stating that critically injured transgender activist Alisha died after neglect and discrimination by the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) staff.
The committee will present its report to the provincial government today. It was formed on Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak’s order to present a report over Alisha’s death within three days.
Alisha, a 23-year-old transgender activist and coordinator of TransAction Alliance, was shot six times by a gang in Peshawar.
For an hour, while the victim bled, the doctors couldn’t decide whether to admit her to the men’s or women’s ward. When they finally decided on the men’s ward, TransAction protested and had her shifted to the women’s ward, where other women apparently complained.
Police have already arrested prime suspect Fazal Gujjar and presented him in front of the media on Sunday.
