An accountability court (AC) on Monday handed over Foreign Ministry Director Shafqat Cheema to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on physical remand for 10 days.

The NAB presented Cheema in the accountability court on the completion of 12 days physical remand on Monday. The NAB prosecutor while requesting the court to extend the physical remand of Cheema said elephant ivory and other goods have been recovered from the accused, and more plots and unnamed property have to be detected.

Defence counsel while opposing a further physical remand of Cheema said: “No opportunity has been given to my client for a plea bargain under the NAB ordinance,” and added: “My client was not at fault and he wanted to go for plea bargain”.

He further pleaded that his client was a heart patient; therefore, medical board should be constituted for his check-up.

The court extended the remand of the accused for further 10 days besides issuing directives for setting up a medical board for his check up.

  1. I’ve only seen petty thieves in prison for stealing a bread from tandoor, or a goat, or bicycle; why our judicial system is holding this bureaucrat? he should be released as there’s no punishment for culprits in Pakistan
