National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry visited the Karachi bureau on Monday to review its performance.
NAB Karachi Director General Colonel (r) Siraj ul Naeem gave a detailed briefing to the NAB chairman about the performance of NAB Karachi during 2015 and 2016. He also highlighted its achievements in the eradication of corruption.
He informed that chairman NAB’s inspection team has conducted an annual inspection of NAB Karachi on the basis of quantified grading system for the year 2015.
During the briefing, Naeem informed that NAB Karachi has disposed of 3,267 complaints during the year 2016. The number of complaints disposed of in 2016 was higher than the number of complaints disposed during the previous years, he said.
In 2016, NAB Karachi has completed 33 complaint verifications (CVs) out of 109, 38 inquiries out of 151 and 40 investigations out of 143 on merit, he said. He added that in 2016, NAB Karachi has filed 50 corruption references and has recovered Rs 1304.965 million which is a record achievement.
The NAB chairman said that NAB is Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organisation assigned with the responsibility of elimination of corruption and corrupt practices through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement.
He said that NAB operates under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 which is extended to all of Pakistan, including Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Gilgit Baltistan. NAB has its Headquarter in Islamabad while it has eight regional bureaus located at Karachi, Lahore, Pehsawar, Quetta, Sukkur, Multan and Rawlapindi, he added.
The NAB chairman said that NAB is committed to eradicating corruption by adopting zero tolerance policy across the board by using all its resources. He said that NAB Karachi is one of the important regional bureaus of NAB and has played a prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB. He said that in view of the assessed annual performance for the year 2015, based on evaluation under quantified grading system conducted by Chairman’s Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI&MT), NAB Karachi’s performance is excellent with 88 per cent operational efficiency index which is highly appreciated.
He directed all the officials of NAB Karachi to work hard to further improve their excellent performance. He further directed them to work more honestly, vigilantly and diligently in order to curb corruption and corrupt practices from the country.
