FY Budget 2016-17: FBR recommends increasing cigarette prices

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recommended increasing federal excise duty on cigarettes in the financial year 2016-17 budget, reported Monday.

According to the recommendation, Rs 200 will be hiked for every 1,000 cigarettes while Rs 450 for another set of 1,000 cigarettes. The imposition of the duty tax will be implemented through two different sets of cigarette brands.

The price of a set will see Rs 4 hike while that of the other, an increase of Rs 9.
