Faulty tube wells add to Lahoris’ water woes

Several tube wells belonging to Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) have either given out or their capability has lessened by 50 per cent owing to falling level of water, increasing water shortage in the city.

According to WASA officials, the authority operates 516 tube wells out of which capacity of 105 wells has fallen to 2 cusecs from the previous 4 cusecs.

The locals used to get 450 million gallons of water every day earlier but now the number has fallen to 420 million gallons.

Officials said that the localities which are at loss in the matter include Allama Iqbal Town, Anarkali, Tajpura, Township and Canal Bank Scheme. On the other hand, at least two to three tube wells goes out of order every other day during summers and it is seen as normality by the department concerned.

However, the authorities concerned could have taken steps beforehand to ease the locals of the suffering in intense heat, the affected people said.
