At least three terrorists were killed during a police encounter in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Bunair area on Sunday.
According to SSP Rao Anwar, one of the killed accused was identified as Muhammad Riaz, said to be a member of the al-Qaeda group in the Subcontinent (AQIS). The terrorists were wanted in many cases and belonged to a banned outfit, said the officials.
“A huge cache of explosives, suicide jackets, arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession,” he added. Al-Qadea and other terror outfits have had deep roots in the largest metropolis of the country, however, after Karachi operation most of the banned organisations have been wiped out.
Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies eliminated two alleged terrorists during a separate encounter.
The Sindh police’s counter terrorism department (CTD) carried out an intelligence-driven action in city’s Manghopir locality late Friday night. The CTD officials claimed that two terrorists were killed when the force raided a house. The action came a day after police and Rangers eliminated three alleged terrorists who were involved in attacks on police and masterminding suicide attacks. Suicide vests and explosives were also recovered from their possession.
