An under-custody alleged terrorist Munir Ahmed alias Mufti Sahib Saturday (today) confessed to carrying out attacks on security forces in Waziristan.
Ahmed told the interrogators that Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Karachi Chief Khan Zaman Khan Masood has gone into hiding in Waziristan’s Ghost and operates from there. He confessed to being involved in different attacks on troops in Waziristan.
The investigation report states that Ahmed is a close aide of Karachi chief of the banned outfit.
He was involved in attacks on security forces in Waziristan along with Commander Hakeemullah Masood and Khan Zaman Khan Masood. He has confessed to having links with Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and TTP Swat group.
The arrested militant has also confessed to demanding extortion money and committing murders in this regard on orders of Waziristan leadership of the extremist organisation.
He added that at least 18 of his accomplices have been killed in different operations by rangers, intelligence agencies and police.
Rangers are operating on special instructions of the federal government in Karachi against extortion, murder, target killing and other crimes incidence. The federation recently extended Rangers special operating powers under the Constitution of Pakistan.
Initially, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) alleged the federal government to following a ‘minus one formula’ through the special operation.
The party that holds opposition benches in the Sindh Assembly termed the targeted operation an attempt to finish the political party as their workers were allegedly killed and several went missing.
However, Pakistan People’s Party did not break silence over the issue for the longest time.
But, former petroleum minister and close friend of former President of Pakistan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Asif Ali Zardari, Asim Hussain was nabbed under terror and corruption charges in separate cases both of which are under hearing.
Indian agents working for Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) have also been arrested in the recent past from Karachi who confessed to being part of an agenda that is aimed at creating unrest in the city.
