Rawalpindi Health Department seals 30 shops and hotels for selling harmful food items

The Health Department Rawalpindi conducted an operation against the eateries and hotels selling harmful food items during the months of April and May.

According to sources, the health department sealed at least 30 shops, hotels and restaurants for selling harmful food items. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against two owners for unhygienic condition at the premises and 324 owners were challaned for the same reason.

The teams of the health department collected 354 samples of the toxic food items being sold at these eateries, bakeries, hotels and restaurants. The samples were sent to the forensic laboratory for inspection. The reports of the laboratory tests revealed that 107 food samples were injurious and could not be consumed.

The health department took a strict action against the owners of the hotels and shops indulged in selling harmful food items. The health department was successful in collecting a fine of Rs 892,000 which was deposited in the government exchequer.
