Punjab govt to appoint consultants in ‘overhaul measure’

The Punjab government is set to appoint consultants in all administrative departments with the objective of improving their functioning.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary Cap (r) Zahid Saeed attended by all administrative secretaries. The summary has been moved to Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final approval.

In case the summary is approved by the CM, the bureaucracy will hire the services of at least 52 consultants for improving the functioning of departments, for which the administrative secretaries have already being paid.

According to the minutes of the meeting, the chief secretary was of the opinion that the administrative secretaries are working with diligence and hard work yet the routine work was consuming most of the time of departments. He was of the view that the administrative secretaries were getting very little time for envisioning new initiatives or improving the quality of work being done.

He briefed the meeting that the administrative secretaries had many new ideas to improve the working of their departments but they needed a new team and specialized persons to implement them.  The CS announced for hiring the services of consultants and constituting separate teams out of current available strength of staff to implement those ideas. The package of consultants will be decided later.
