Int’l community should acknowledge Pakistan’s sacrifices in war against terrorism: Chinese ambassador

Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong has said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will help realise Pakistan’s dream to become Asian Tiger.

On the occasion of 65th-anniversary celebrations of Pak-China diplomatic relations, he said CPEC extends cooperation in areas of energy, infrastructure, development of Gwadar Port, and industrial collaboration.

He said eight major power projects are under construction in this framework of cooperation, which would certainly help to overcome energy shortage in Pakistan.

The ambassador said up gradation of Karakorum Highway, construction of Lahore-Karachi Motorway, and fibre cable linkage is the key projects being undertaken under CPEC.

He said the capacity of Gwadar Port is also being enhanced and construction of Gwadar free zones has also started beside construction of Gwadar International Airport.

Sun Weidong said CPEC is beneficial not only for China and Pakistan but for the whole region in terms of economic development and connectivity.

About the bilateral trade, Sun Weidong said it is rapidly expanding with an annual growth rate of 80.3 percent. He said China is the largest country in terms of foreign investment in Pakistan.

He said China and Pakistan are also extending their cooperation in peace and reconciliatory process in Afghanistan.

The ambassador said both the countries also enjoyed very good military-to-military relations in counter-terrorism. He appreciated Pakistan for its successful efforts in fighting terrorism. He urged the international community to acknowledge Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war against terrorism and extend full cooperation to completely eliminate this menace.
